The Most Secure Locations in the World (Part One)

As safety is an extremely important part of today’s society; it’s not surprising that when it comes to security – people take incredible precautions in order to protect themselves and their homes.

The world is full of traditional and modern security systems that are built to protect whatever they hold, but if you’re wondering where you’d be most safe in the world (in case of a Zombie Apocalypse or the likes) – here are some of the most secure locations in the world, considered the safest, for a variety of reasons.

Fort Knox, Kentucky, USA

Located in Kentucky, South of Louisville, Fort Knox is home to the United States’ monetary assets, and is said to hold literally tons of gold, no matter the controversy. The last estimate highlighted 5,000 tons, which is equal to around 2% of all gold that has ever been mined from the Earth.

So, to make it safe enough – just in case the surrounding military camp isn’t effective – there is a bank vault within a deep basement, behind a 250 ton door!

ADX Florence Prison, Colorado, USA

The Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX for short) is a supermax prison (for men) based in Colorado, and is regarded as the world’s most secure prison. It’s said to be home to some of America’s most dangerous criminals, and has earned itself the nickname of ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’, with no inmate ever escaping!

Security measures at the prison include attack dogs which guard the area between the prison walls, 1,400 remote-controlled steel doors, 12ft high razor wire fences, motion detecting laser beams, pressure pads, and a whole load of cameras.

1960s Bar, Burlington bunker, Wiltshire, England

Discovered to be the world’s most secure pub, the 1960s Bar is 100 feet underground, and is situated within Britain’s secret subterranean Burlington bunker complex in Wiltshire, England.

The 1960s Bar is a recreation of a pub that was popular with British government officials, with the top secret base being first constructed during the Cold War. The bunker, which stretches an 186,000 square-metre base, is still maintained by a small number of staff, and makes for an ideal ‘lock in’ in the future, if ever required.
